FONOM Joins NOMA's Call to Support Energy Production in the North

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities is adding it's voice to a growing list of organizations that agree with the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association that Northern Ontario needs local electricity generation to grow the northern resource economy.

"We stand in support of municipalities in Northwestern Ontario who are rightly upset at the Government of Ontario's plans to cancel the conversion of the Thunder Bay Generation Station from coal to natural gas." Said Al Spacek, President of FONOM. "Having access to cleaner, affordable forms of electricity production is key to growing our resource economy."

"This government is closing our parks, selling off our freight rail, privatizing our passenger bus service and now literally cutting power generation in the North. Now, more than ever, it is critical all stakeholders in the north join together to say to this government, enough is enough." Spacek added.

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities is actively engaged in efforts to reverse the Government of Ontario's decisions to divest ONTC assets, and end camping in ten provincial parks in Northern Ontario.
